Known as “Rafa” among his fans, Nadal is currently the world number 3 at the ATP rankings of Single Mens’ Tennis. The chart is led by Medverev and Zverev. His era of reign at the tennis world ended on 2020, after 209 weeks of dominance. The man turned pro in 2001 and been the world’s best player for 5 years. After loosing his first place in 2020, he stayed in second place until 08th March 2021 and started a gradual decline. He ended up being the 6th at 08th November 2021. He then started climbing and reached the third in the world. Aged at 36 years, he is truly a wonder, as the saying goes on Aged wine is the best wine.

Early life

Nadal’s birthplace was in Spain and he came to this world on the 3rd of June 1986. You might be wondering how Nadal came into sports. His family was predominantly interested in sports. His uncle Miguel Angel Nadal was a professional football player, who even played for the 2002 world cup. Rafael began his career at a very tender age. You would not believe this; he started his tour at the tender age of four under the guidance of his uncle Toni Nadal. Tennis was no foreign to Rafael Nadal.


Nadal was right handed, but he practised Tennis to be a left handed player with both hands fore and back hands. At 12, his uncle encouraged him for the conventional left hand only stance. He then developed his signature one handed forehand style which became his turning point in Tennis career.

This made a beautiful spin which would amaze his audience as well as the opponent. This spin made the ball to bounce back higher, thereby creating an atmosphere of tense towards the opponent. Nadal preceded Federer in Tennis rankings, and it was solely because of this. Having very wide shoulders, Nadal could strengthen his blow, thereby deliver the ball with high speeds.


Nadal began with winning the Sopot title in 2004, when he was just 18 years old. He has won 92 singles career titles, while being a singles career finalist at 38 occasions. He contributed in 11 double career titles and at 4 times he and his partner came to the Finals and lost. He has also helped in winning 6 team titles for Spain, including 4 Davis cups.
